Charly entered this country after his approval by the German Verband in October 1999. He was imported in 2000 after a limited breeding season in Germany.
In 2001 he was shown at Training Level and qualified for the USDF Regional Championships, the California Dressage Society Championships, and Horse of the Year.
Also in 2001, he competed in the USDF Cosequin Breeder's Series, finishing as a qualifier in all three competitions, either as Champion or Reserve Champion.
In 2002, he began a career with Leslie Webb. He showed at First Level in five shows, never scoring less that a qualifying score for both the USDF Regional Championships and the California Dressage Society Championships, as well as Horse of the Year. He finished as the Horse of the Year for First Level with the American Trakehner Association, Second in the Horse of the Year for First Level with the American Warmblood Society, First in the USDF All Breed Awards for Trakehers, and 22nd in the USDF Horse of the Year--quite an accomplishment, especially given his very limited competition schedule.
On August 16, 2002, he was euthanized as the result of a traumatic spinal injury. He left a legacy here on the farm of five colts and two fillies, as well as the outside mares he bred in 2001 and 2002.
His 2003 foal crop (we do have frozen semen) includes six colts and five fillies here on the farm who definately show his influence.
We will miss him. |
